Meet Our Ferrets (Pictures and Personalities)
|
Squirt is our oldest at five and a half years of age. We got
Squirt when he was eight weeks old, and he was such a little
squirt that that's what we named him. We had him for about
one year before getting our second ferret. Since he was our
first, we, of course, spoiled him rotten with even more
attention than he needed. Squirt is bonded closely with us,
and pouts when we go away on vacation for a long weekend or
for a week.
Squirt developed to be reasonably strong and well-coordinated
from all of the time he spent playing with us and climbing,
jumping, and running around outside his cage (where he stayed
when we weren't home). He is the smartest of our four ferrets,
and has taught the others a thing or two. He is also at the
top of the pecking order of our fuzzies. Squirt's greatest
loves are fresh dirt, cantelope, and a good snuggle.

Pippi is our second oldest ferret at four years of age, and
is named for that great adventuress Pippi Longstockings.
Pippi came into our lives when Squirt was about one year old.
We got Pippi when she was eight weeks old, just like when we
got Squirt.
Pippi is the tiniest of our four fuzzbeans, but she's also
the acrobat of the group. She's quite the remarkable little
athelete, and she's taught the rest a couple of shortcuts to
getting around various parts of our home.
Since she grew up around Squirt she's become very attached
to him. They are like brother and sister. Squirt taught
Pippi everything he knew about wrestling, and she'd probably
make a good terrifier of rodents if given a chance.

Atlas and Hijinx came to us at a time when we had been
thinking about adding a third ferret to our home. We found
the two of them in a local pet store. They were being kept
in a small aquarium on pine shavings, and it was telling that
they had received very little socialization with people up to
that point. The pine shavings had dried out the pads on
Atlas' back feet so that they hurt him enough that he didn't
walk on them completely right. On top of that, the pet store
had the two of them marked down to almost 50% off in an
effort to sell them since they were no longer tiny kits.
To make a long story short, they are both doing just fine now
in our home and get along with Squirt and Pippi.
Atlas is the dumb lug of the group. He always has the most
innocent little child look of naivete on his face and truely
a simple creature. Atlas is a strong and wiggly little bugger
and delights in romping and playing. He is also hurt easily
when scolded and will sulk and slink around until he thinks
that you're over being mad at him. We love him bunches. He
is now three and a half years old.

Hijinx was quite the looney when we brought her home. She
would run around like a little spaz and try to bite us. Now
she's taken to following us around looking for attention,
though she still does take a chomp now and then. Hijinx is our
fuzzy fluff ball all year round and has the softest fur of
the bunch. She is now three and a half years old.
